Habits of the Heart

Developing Socially and Emotionally Healthy Students

Our teachers and students are committed to developing the ability to use our hearts well.  At The Project School, using the heart well involves the ability to work passionately, to empathize, to be compassionate and to have concern for the welfare of oneself and others.  Students and teachers are expected to model mutually healthy relationships, meaningful community service, high-quality collaborative work products and sensitivity to the needs of others.

Habits of the Mind

Influencing Each Student’s Destiny and the Community’s Future

Our teachers and students intentionally develop our ability to use our minds well. At The Project School, using the mind well connects heart and voice as students and teachers demonstrate that they have the will, skill, capacity and knowledge to shape not only their own destiny but to contribute to the direction of their community as well. Essential attributes of using the mind well include informed decision making, creative problem solving and thoughtful planning. Our teachers and students are motivated and engaged in continuous learning because the curriculum is personalized in order to be meaningful and relevant for every teacher and student.

Habits of the Voice

Contributing to a Creative Future

Our teachers and students work hard to develop their capacity for creative expression.  At The Project School, we are committed to the development of our students’ and teachers’ ability to use our voices well. Using the voice well includes the ability to create a persuasive argument, as well as to be able to listen well and with an open mind. In this context, voice includes all forms of creative expression including artistic and non-verbal.
Welcome to the Project School
The Bloomington Project School is a K-8 teacher designed model focused on developing positive Habits of the Heart, Mind, and Voice through problem-, place-, project – based (the P3 Framework) curriculum.  Through P3 projects, students identify real issues in their communities and utilize community assets to address those issues.  The Bloomington Project School utilizes multiage teaming and discipline-based literacy and numeracy workshops to scaffold the skills students need to engage in highly authentic and integrated P3 Projects.  Project School students engage in critical, creative and reflective thinking, thus developing their intellectual character.   The Bloomington Project School is committed to teaching the whole child and developing socially conscious citizens who can not only work well with others, but also lead others and contribute to the greater good.

Solid Curriculum
